€-konomica's approach to competition policy

E-konomica has been providing professional advice to companies involved in competition procedures in the European Commission, national competition authorities and Courts for 5 years. Juan Briones, founder of e-konomica, has 17 years experience in applying industrial economics to competition cases, and offers the unique experience of having worked directly in over 150 competition cases, of which over 100 mergers

The principles guiding our work may be summarised in the following 4 points:

  • The effective use of economic advice in a competition case requires a full integration of its legal, procedural and economic aspects into one single strategy of defence. Because economists provide a global view of how markets work, they can ensure coherence across filings, answers to requests of information and other submissions.
  • Economists in competition procedures focus on identifying and gathering the economically meaningful evidence to support the overall analysis of the impact of mergers or of certain behaviour on the relevant markets.
  • E-konomica specialises in introducing economic analysis and reasoning into legal procedures. It is not sufficient to provide rigorous analysis of the highest quality; a clear and adequate presentation is key to obtain maximum efficacy in administrative or judicial procedures.
  • The effectiveness of economic advice is significantly enhanced if leverage on less experienced people is reduced to a minimum. E-konomica's flexible network structure allows to bring to an individual case only those human resources that are strictly necessary.
